Did the situation in Russia affect the cancellation of the

Franco Uncini, chief safety officer for the MotoGP race, tells Sports that the cancellation was mainly due to delays in material transports.

Last week, there was news of the cancellation of the Finnish MotoGP race. The track motorcycle race was to be run at the Iitti Kymiring track on the second weekend in July.

The track did not pass the inspection carried out by the International Motorcycle Federation FIM. Sport reaches FIM’s MotoGP safety manager on Tuesday Franco Uncinin.

CEO of Kymiring Riku Rönnholm previously told that the biggest challenge was related to tire ramparts. According to Uncin, the biggest factor in canceling the Games was supply chain disruptions. Due to this, not all the necessary materials were available for the track. The time also came.

Uncini says the delays were mainly due to the coronavirus situation in the past. At present, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has also caused delays in various deliveries.

– I understand such problems. Due to the corona pandemic, all material transports were delayed. Perhaps the biggest problem was with material transportation, Uncini says.

According to Uncic, many different things were flawed. In addition to the tire walls, the grass areas of the track, among other things, were not ready. According to him, the health center also had shortcomings from the perspective of the MotoGP race.

– There were some small problems. But when they all add up, it’s a bigger problem.

– We are sorry for Kymiring and Finland. However, the risks of organizing a race are great when not everything is ready. Drivers would criticize and ask why we are here.

Geographical location has no effect

According to Uncin, however, the situation in Russia and Ukraine or Finland’s close geographical location to Russia has no effect on the cancellation of the race.

– This situation (Ukrainian war) affects everyone. It affects Finland and us. We are working to ensure that we can compete in Finland in the future.

– The fact that Russia is close to Finland has nothing to do with the cancellation. We never discussed it. Of course, we take into account the world situation, but that was not one of the reasons for the relocation. It has nothing to do.

Uncini will also raise Finland’s NATO application. According to him, the cancellation of Kymiring’s competition will not be affected either.

– I do not think Russia will react to the NATO application, Uncini says.

Uncini believes that the MotoGP race will be run in Finland in the summer of 2023.

– I am sure that the track will be ready in a year.
