Diablo 4 is one class away from being complete

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Diablo 4 will be a service game that will be updated with new content over the years. Fans are already wondering what could come and which new class is coming up. One is particularly popular and even very likely. Best of all, most of you still want them too.

What class is this? Paladins already existed in Diablo 2. The holy warriors fight with divine magic, sword and shield in heavy armor. They are the proverbial bulwark against the dark forces.

The idea of paladins was later continued in Diablo 3 and Diablo Immortal and implemented in Crusader. The two classes share many traits, with Crusaders still having a trademark skill with horses.

In our poll of what new class you want in Diablo 4, Paladins are currently #1 with 29% of the votes. And it looks like there’s a good chance you might get your wish in the first expansion.

At the moment only 5 classes are known in Diablo 4: Barbarian, Druid, Huntress, Necromancer and Sorceress. However, indications of a 6th grade were found as early as 2022, including through a leak from Blizzard itself.

The Diablo 4 Open Beta will start soon and you can test the classes yourself. What you need to know about the beta:

Will the Paladin be the first new class in Diablo 4?

This speaks for the paladin: In late 2022, an image surfaced showing the Diablo 4 classes fighting some demons and other enemies. No character is clearly worked out, except for the playable classes.

The same picture was shown back in 2019 when Diablo 4 was announced, but then only with Sorceress, Barbarian, and Druid, the classes known at the time. The new image looks almost the same, except that there are three more characters.

Alongside the Huntress and Necromancer is a 6th figure clad in golden armor, carrying a shield, possessing angel wings and holding a spear in the air. The image was quickly removed, but a user on reddit saved and shared it.

This image from 2019 was later expanded to include more classes.

Since then, rumors have been running high and players are pondering what kind of character that could be. They suspect an angel, but this doesn’t fit because a face can be seen. Angels don’t have faces in Diablo. That’s why there are now different classes in the room that would be possible:

  • paladin
  • Crusader
  • Valkyrie (as in Diablo 2’s Amazon ability)
  • Templar
  • According to fans and experts, another indication of the paladin is that a class of this archetype is still missing. There is still no class that uses holy power and also no real shield bearer. For the sake of completeness, such a class would have to come.

Do you still want to vote yourself? Here’s the poll for which class you want:

When could the paladin appear? Historically, it would make sense for the class to come into play with the first or second expansion. In the Diablo 4 story, the gates of heaven are closed, so there is no help from angels.

However, if the story eventually leads to the player traveling the heavens, as in Diablo 3, or otherwise contacting the heavenly beings, a corresponding class would also fit thematically.

An angel killed 90% of the humans in Diablo 3, getting fans excited for Diablo 4

We can’t say exactly when the expansion will appear. Some fans suspect that the first expansion or the first new DLC will appear before the end of the year. We also don’t know anything about the costs of a possible new class.

It is common practice in the development of games that long before publication, possible new content is considered and some of it is even completed. So it may even be that the new class will be announced before the release on June 6th.

Since the announcement in 2019, a lot has happened and changed in Diablo 4 – and some information has stayed under the radar:
