Despite cleaning – third outbreak of salmonella in the same stable at CA Cedergren

In the first two outbreaks, infection was found in the stables, while in April this year it was in the egg packaging that the infection was found.

Now in August, there are again samples from the stables where the infection was previously found that have yielded results, despite cleanup and the green light from the Swedish Agricultural Agency. According to Maud Cedergren, this points to salmonella being present in the stable all along.

– We have persistently driven samples to Uppsala with our own staff for weeks. It’s too woody. All samples showed negative, says Maud Cedergren, one of the co-owners.

It is unclear how the salmonella got in

When it now turns out that the ongoing outbreak came from the facility’s own stables, the course becomes a little clearer, but how the infection originally entered the stable itself is still not investigated.

– We have not found the cause of the salmonella. That problem is not solved. Now we have to remove the animals and clean up the two stables. We will have to start all over again, says Maud Cedergren.

Roughly 340,000 chickens will be killed, and all deliveries to retailers and stores will be paused. Eggs from the other stables at the facility will go to heat treatment where they are ground into egg powder.
