Czech Republic to a big surprise in the Youth World

The Czech Republic gave the reigning world champion an early trip home at the World Junior Hockey Championships. In the last 26 years, Canada has been left out of the medal games only twice.

The Czech Republic finished with two goals in the quarter-finals Jakub Stancl sank pre-favorite Canada eleven seconds before the end of regular time with his 3–2 goal at the World Youth Hockey Championships in Gothenburg.

The Czech Republic, which finished third in the preliminary group, only defeated Canada for the first time in the playoffs of the under-20 World Cup tournament. The Czech Republic led the match 2–0 after the opening set, but Canada came close in the second set.

For a long time it seemed that the match would go to overtime, until Stancl became the decider in a dramatic moment, triggered by lucky bounces in 59:49. The long-range shot caught the Canadian Oliver Bonkin off the stick and therefore surprised the goalkeeper on a bad day Mathis Rousseau.

Canada’s warrior of bad luck, 18-year-old defenseman Bonk, has reacted after a stinging and decisive comeback goal in a way that has changed the Philadelphia Flyers’ first-round NHL draft this summer make your own Instagram account personal. Oliver has more than ten thousand followers on social media and his father is a puck roller who represented the Czech Republic in his time and played a total of more than 1,000 NHL games Radek Bonk.

Czech hero Stancl is the St. Louis Blues’ 4th round NHL pick for 2023. He has played for the SHL club Växjö Lakers in six games this season and scored one goal.

The matches in the initial groups do not have as much weight when the playoff stage is played. In the preliminary group, Slovakia beat the Czech Republic, for example, but today, on the day of the quarterfinals, the Czech Republic continues towards the medal games, while Slovakia does not.

In the same way, Canada beat Finland in the first group, but now the Young Lions are fighting for medals after the victory in Slovakia, while Canada is packing its bags to return home.

In the last 26 years, Canada has been left out of the medal games only twice. Both times, the feat was accomplished by Finland, which went on to become world champions, in 2016 and 2019.

The tournament has been played 47 times. Canada has won 20 gold medals and has medaled 35 times.
