Curt “Curre” Lundmark mourns his close friend Börje Salming after his death.
Lundmark had time to meet Salming one last time – a couple of days before Salming and his family left for Canada.
– I can hardly speak. It is so damn terrible that there are hardly any words, says “Curre” to Aftonbladet.

After suffering from the disease ALS went Börje Salming on Thursday away, aged 71. He is now mourned and celebrated by an entire sports world, and among the countless people who remember Börje Salming are also close friends Curt “Curre” Lundmark.

“It was about days”

On Tuesday, Lundmark attended the Bissen brainwalk in Köping, an event that takes place to raise money for ALS research, and half of the money was donated to Börje Salming’s ALS foundation.

“Curre” then met Salming’s personal doctor who was there to receive the check with the money, and that’s when he understood how it was.
– Even though she didn’t say it outright, I got a pretty clear picture. Her hopes that he would live long were no more. It was about days, says Lundmark to Aftonbladet.

Two days later, Börje Salming left earthly life.

Curre Lundmark says that – despite the announcement – it is not possible to mentally prepare for something like this.
– I can hardly speak. It’s so fucking horrible that there are hardly any words. Börje was a human power plant. He always stood up. He was ruthless to himself, but incredibly thorough and kind to others. An unbelievably good role model in every way. It is really impossible to find an equivalent, he says.

Lundmark says that he had time to meet Salming before he traveled to Canada and Toronto two weeks ago.
– I was so devilishly nervous when I went there and hardly knew if I would make it. Vid sat for a couple of hours and talked about old memories and about everything we experienced together. In retrospect, it feels very nice that we had that moment together.
