“Cupcake Day isn’t just about indulging in delicious treats, it’s about making a tangible difference in the lives of animals who need our help,” said Jen Rienties, specialist of events and community engagement at the Brant County SPCA. “Each dollar donated contributes directly to the Greatest Shelter Needs allowing us to positively change the lives of animals in our care.”

Proceeds from the event help provide essential services such as spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, medical care and overall costs associated with animal care.

“Currently our stock of wet puppy and wet kitten food is running low,” Rienties added. ”We have seen an influx of puppies lately and with kitten season around the corner we can expect this need to rise in the coming weeks.”

Last year just over $25,000 was raised and the goal for the 2024 event is $30,000.

For a minimum $2 donation people can get a complimentary cupcake by visiting the shelter.

Anyone interested in hosting their own Cupcake Day fundraiser at their place of business, community center, or school can get more information about receiving a host kit by sending an email to [email protected].

A Cupcake Day coloring contest is also offered for young children, with coloring sheets and information available at brantcountyspca.com.

As a not-for-profit organization the Brant County SPCA has been providing animal welfare services to Brantford and Brant County for more than 50 years.

The Mohawk Street shelter was built in 1969 providing care and shelter for homeless animals, pet adoptions, emergency boarding services, and humane education.

Animals that receive these services are included but are not limited to dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, and guinea pigs.
