The end of the world has rarely been as crazy as in Fallout. The video game series enriches its dystopian setting with a lot of sarcastic humor and references to the ideal world of the American 1950s. Judging by the first teaser, Amazon Prime’s sci-fi series adaptation Fallout will be in the same vein. According to producer Jonathan Nolan (Westworld) But it also follows a basic idea that is not funny at all.

Fallout shows what happens when humanity’s survival is left to external service providers, said Nolan in an interview with Empire. On the cryptic wording the producer follows up with a tough outlook:
As well as [die 70er-Kultserie] MASH comments on the Vietnam War in the form of the Korean War, we are speaking about our current chaos from the standpoint of a specific story premise: “What if everyone just goes ahead and destroys the fucking world?”

Despite the historical potpourri of the original, Amazon’s sci-fi implementation will be different at times moving uncomfortably close to our global reality. With the various wars and crises of the present day, Nolan’s approach will surprise few fans.
