Court orders disbanding of popular opposition party in Thailand

In Thailand, the Constitutional Court has ordered the dissolution of the popular Eteenpäin opposition party.

The reason for this is the reform pushed by the party that won the elections in 2023, which would relax the country’s strict legislation on mocking the royal house.

In Thailand, you can get a maximum of 15 years in prison for that. The law is one of the harshest in the world and has been used to silence critics of the government.

For example, the country’s former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was charged on the basis of it in June.
