In Côte d’Ivoire, a week after the filing of Laurent Gbagbo’s complaint with the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), the government is speaking out about his removal from the electoral register. Sentenced to twenty years in prison in the so-called “BCEAO breakage” case, the former president has been removed from the electoral list since 2020. He had benefited from a presidential pardon in August 2022, but this did not does not allow him to recover his civic rights. However, his party is stepping up its efforts to have his name appear again on the electoral list.
