Cote dIvoire delivers military equipment to Burkina Faso to fight

Côte d’Ivoire comes to the aid of Burkina Faso in the fight against insecurity. A batch of military equipment worth more than two billion CFA francs was handed over to the authorities in Ouagadougou. The material was received a few days ago, but Ouagadougou has so far made no communication.

Composed of about fifty “azawad” type pickup vehicles, 1,000 AK47 assault rifles and 100,000 ammunition, the equipment was delivered these days, said an official Ivorian source without further details.

A few months ago, the authorities of Ouagadougou sent a request for support to Côte d’Ivoire, explains our source. After analysis, the Ivorian government has decided to support its neighbor with a donation of military equipment. According to several sources, this donation of more than two billion CFA francs was decided a few weeks ago.

For the Ivorians, it is a question of helping the Burkinabè to circumscribe the jihadist threat on the spot. The two countries share a 540 km long border. On the security front, the two countries have already carried out several joint operations on both sides of their border. But the threat is still present on the Ivorian side

A source close to the general staff of the armies confirms the donation to Burkina Faso. But no political or military authority has communicated on this support from the Ivorian neighbor.
