After the recent heavy rain, there is now again a risk of flooding in several places. SMHI has red warnings for Dalarna and Gästrikland.

Since last Friday, there have been red warnings in Gavleån, outside Gävle, and in Marnäsån and Kolningsån, outside Falun due to large amounts of rain that fell in the last week. In Gavleån there is a risk of flooding.

– It is about extremely high flows in the water levels for both of these areas, and extremely high current speeds in the waterways. These are flows that occur every 50 years, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen, meterologist at SMHI.

On Tuesday, more rain is also expected over parts of the country, including in the Gävle area.

– It’s not a new Hans right away, it will probably drag on for 6 hours. But locally it can be 20–30 millimeters, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen.

The red warnings apply until further notice, according to SMHI.

– It is serious, red warning corresponds to our highest level. There has been a large media gathering around this, which is good, because it means that many people know about it, so it probably won’t come as a surprise, says Höjgård-Olsen.
