The Supreme Court of the state of Colorado declares former President Donald Trump ineligible for the presidential election next year. But it will be the Supreme Court in Washington that gets to decide the issue.

According to the outcome in Colorado, Trump cannot be on the state’s ballot because, according to the court, he was involved in the events when the Congress in Washington was stormed on January 6, 2021.

The decision was taken by a narrow majority, 4 votes to 3. The decision does not enter into force until January 4 or until the Supreme Court has taken a position on the matter. Trump’s lawyers have warned that they will immediately appeal a ruling that goes against Trump.

The majority of the court in Colorado, which is made up of judges appointed by Democrats, writes that they do not take the conclusions of their position lightly and that it has not been an easy decision to make.

“We realize the scope and meaning of the issues we face. But we are also aware of our duty to follow the law, writes the court majority.
