Colleagues raised the alarm about hiding drugs at work in Umeå: “It smelled strong”

The police were already contacted in March by employees of a company on Västerslätt in Umeå after they became suspicious of a changing room.

Initially, employees made several observations that suspected narcotics were hidden in a cupboard and in a black bag. They must also have noted that an unknown man had access to the premises and the cupboard.

– It was a large bag and in it was dried grass that smelled. It wasn’t just loose grass, but also small plastic portion packs. It smelled strongly, says one of the employees in questioning.

Made a splash in the spring

With the help of secret camera surveillance, the police were able to carry out a crackdown on the workplace last spring. Two men who worked at the workplace were arrested.

In the cabinet were several different bags of drugs, packaging material and a scale that had DNA traces from the men.

– There were a lot of tablets and hashish, police detective chief Thomas Palmgren told SVT last spring.

Shot the man involved

Just before the arrest, one of the employed men had made several calls to the man who was shot in Umeå last spring. He is also said to have been the unknown man seen by employees in the premises.

During a raid at the home of the shot man in the autumn, suspected narcotics of various kinds were found. SEK 100,000 in cash was also found.

Does not connect to any network

It is unclear whether the crackdown is connected to any criminal network.

– We have not succeeded in connecting the drugs on Västerslätt to any of the larger networks, says Thomas Palmgren.

But the man who was shot East in town has previously been able to be linked to the Foxtrot network.
