Co workers split 1M lottery prize

A Courtland man had to convince 16 of his co-workers that he wasn’t joking when he told them they had won $1 million.

The group of 17 won the prize in the Lotto Max Maxmillions draw back on March 22.

Ladislav Ratkovic, who leads the lottery group, said he had to wake his wife early one morning to double check the numbers.

“She scanned it using the OLG App and we saw $1 million. I’m so happy we won with the group,” he told officials at the OLG Prize Center in Toronto. “I spent the whole morning on the phone with everyone convincing them I wasn’t joking.”

Other group members are Alex Maclellan of Delhi; Antoni Rembisz of Scotland; Cameron Shunamon of Brantford; Carlos Custodio of Simcoe; George McWilliams of Petersburg; Hamlet Pryce of Brantford ; Joao Felix Dos Santos of Delhi; Jose Faria of Simcoe; jose lopes of Simcoe; Kasey Kaiswatum of Brantford; Keith Stephens of Brantford; Marek Kaplon of Vanessa; Richard King of Hagersville; Tomasz Rembisz of Brantford; Vincent Napholc of Brantford; and Vitor Faria of Simcoe.

The group has been playing the lottery together since the days of Super 7.

So what will they do with their winnings? Ladislav said some will use it for home renovations or a down payment on a house, some will travel and some will put it into savings.

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Simcoe Street in Tillsonburg.
