Mayor Kevin Davis and Coun. Linda Hunt officially unveiled the new system by illuminating city hall in purple and blue to recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace and the elimination of barriers in employment.

“With the capacity to project a spectrum of vibrant colors, city hall’s facade will serve as a canvas for a number of causes, celebrations and commemorations,” said a news release issued by the city.

Davis said city hall “has always been a symbol of our community’s unity and strength.”

“With this innovative lighting system, we can now shine a light on the causes that matter most to our citizens and I look forward to the positive impact it will have on our city.”

An accessibility advocate, Hunt said the new lighting system “will provide us with a dynamic way to raise awareness for various issues that impact our community.”
