Christophe Moreau in detention for domestic violence What we know

According to a Swiss media, the former French cycling champion Christophe Moreau is in pre-trial detention.

He was one of the former stars of the peloton between the 1990s and 2000s. Christophe Moreau, former French road cycling champion in 2007 and 4th in the 2000 Tour de France, is currently in pre-trial detention on the Swiss side according to the media Blick. According to information from our colleagues, the former cyclist would be detained for possible domestic violence and death threats against Emilie Moreau, deputy for the canton of Jura, and her two daughters.

After his retirement from sport, the Frenchman decided to leave France to come and live in Switzerland. He will obtain the nationality of the country in 2015 and feels “more Swiss and Jura than French”. “At first I wanted to optimize my taxation but today it’s a lifestyle choice, a family choice, but of course we pay less tax, and that counts” he explained at the time for France Bleu.

After a long career and some outstanding victories such as the title of champion of France and the victory of the general classification at the Dauphiné Libéré in 2007, Christophe Moreau had finally retired in 2010 after a final season under the colors of the Caisse d’Epargne. From now on, the former rider is general manager within the Philippe Wagner Cycling team which is celebrating its 2nd year of existence and which is aiming for the top 5 French teams playing at National 1 level.
