China’s ChatGPT has its own theory about the origin of the coronavirus: “Shrimp..”

Many Swedes have tried asking questions to the chatbot found in Microsoft’s Bing, or OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Now there is also a Chinese equivalent, called Ernie, which after its release by the company Baidu quickly became number one in Apple’s appstore top list In China.

The bots have similar functionality, but do you get the same answers if you ask the same questions to American ChatGTP and Chinese Ernie?

This is how ChatGPT responds when SVT asks it to briefly summarize what it knows about the origin of the coronavirus:

But, the same question to Ernie results in a completely different answer.

SVT Nyheter, together with China correspondent Tilde Lewin, has tried to ask questions about the coronavirus, Xinjiang, and whether China is a democracy or not, to both ChatGPT and Ernie.

See the result, and hear Ernie’s shrimp theory, in the video above.
