After just five minutes of play, Swedish national team star Dejan Kulusevski gave Tottenham the lead, when his shot was headed into the goal by Chelsea’s Levi Colwill.
It was the start of an incredibly eventful match.
Five disallowed goals
Around ten minutes later, it looked as though Tottenham would make it 2–0, but after VAR review, Heung-Min Son’s goal was disallowed.
Before the game was over, four more goals had been disallowed – three for Chelsea and one for Tottenham.
Romero expelled
But Chelsea also managed to get two goals approved. The first after 35 minutes, when Cole Palmer scored a penalty. The penalty came after Cristian Romero stamped on Enzo Fernandez and was sent off.
Early in the second half, Tottenham received their second sending-off of the evening, as Destiny Udogie received his second yellow card.
Jackson made it 2–1
After that, a hard Chelsea press awaited, and several great situations. But Guglielmo Vicario starred in the Tottenham goal, making several great saves – while the Chelsea players showed no impressive efficiency.
But in the end, with a quarter to play, Chelsea finally made it 2–1 through Nicolas Jackson.
Standing ovations
And in extra time, after Tottenham actually had a few chances to equalise, Chelsea also scored 3–1 and 4–1.
Tottenham, who fought frantically, received a standing ovation from the home crowd despite the loss.
