Champions League 2023: the Lensois not unhappy but frustrated! Results and rankings

Champions League 2023 the Lensois not unhappy but frustrated Results

Lens conceded the draw at home against PSV (1-1), but did not do a bad accounting operation. PSG must react and beat AC Milan this evening.

The Lensois have now made it a habit: led by PSV Eindhoven, as in Seville and against Arsenal, they equalized but this time did not manage to completely turn the match around (1-1). After a disappointing first period, with little intensity and too few chances, the match got carried away in the second half, in a still incandescent Stade Bollaert. Despite an active Frankowski on the right side, always quick to deliver good crosses, the Lensois lacked realism, like the PSV players, with their few opportunities in the first act.

It was the PSV nugget, Johan Bakayoko, who found the fault after returning from the locker room with a floating shot from the edge of the area, surprising Brice Samba on his right (54th). It took no less to wake up the Sang et Or: in ten minutes, Fulgini, Sotoca and Wahi tried their luck without success, before the latter finally turned into a providential scorer on yet another cross from Frankowski (65th). The two teams went blow for blow at the end of the match, and both could have won with more precision in the last move.

Faced with a PSV as strong as we predicted, the Lensois are happy not to lose and to maintain three points ahead of their evening opponent, but perhaps frustrated at not having been able to convert an additional opportunity for make the break in this group B, and keep the lead. Because in the other match, Arsenal won at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium in Seville (1-2). The Gunners made the difference just before and just after the break, through Martinelli (45th) and Gabriel Jesus (54th), rewarding great domination. The Sevillians reacted too late, even if they put pressure on after Gudelj reduced the gap (59th). are in last position in the group tied with PSV with two points, three lengths behind Lens and five behind Arsenal.

Manchester United remains hopeful

The Mancuniens had nightmares, and they were almost overtaken by their demons: against Copenhagen, they obtained a first vital success in this Champions League (1-0), but they scared each other until the end additional time. Without inspiration in the game, the Red Devils relied on a saving header from Maguire on a cross from Eriksen to break the deadlock (72nd). They then had a cold sweat in added time, when McTominay showed clumsiness to offer a penalty to the Danes, missed by Larsson, or rather saved by Onana, like a cruel match for Copenhagen which would have deserved a positive result. Three welcome first points for Manchester United, while Bayern flies to the top of the group after their victory at Galatasaray (1-3). The Bavarians have long been pushed to their limits by the inspired Istanbulites, but Kane (73rd) then Musiala (79th) finally responded to Icardi’s equalizer (30th), which itself followed Coman’s first goal ( 8th).

The favorites take the break

In Pool C, Naples and real Madrid enforced their status by winning respectively at Union Berlin (0-1) and Braga (1-2). The Italians and the Spanish were not brilliant, and were even dominated in sequences, but showed pragmatism. Like Inter in Group D, who beat Salzburg at home (2-1) by being solid behind and efficient up front. The Nerazzurri take the lead in the group with Real Sociedad, who won at Benfica (0-1) in a dull match. The Benfiquistas are almost eliminated with three defeats in three games, seven points behind the Basques and Inter.

Paris must win to reassure itself

The Parisians will be expected, Wednesday at 9 p.m., to show a different face than that of the scathing defeat at Newcastle (4-1). They welcome AC Milan to the Parc des Princes, after reassuring themselves this weekend against Strasboug (3-0). The Rossoneri fell at home this Sunday against Juventus (0-1), but have had a very good start to the season. In the Champions League, they have two points after two goalless matches: 0-0 against Newcastle then at Dortmund. PSG players will have to find the solution to break through the Milan defense and win a match that would bring them closer to qualification, before going to San Siro.

In the other match of the group, the leader Newcastle receives the Borussia Dortmund, who is in last place with just one point. The Borussen already have their backs against the wall, while the Magpies have an opportunity to make a break in the standings.

Fat people must confirm

Wednesday at 6:45 p.m., Barça receives the Shakhtar Donetsk and can already take a big step towards the round of 16. In the same group, Antwerp receives Porto at 9 p.m. Feyenoord hosts Lazio at 6:45 p.m., before a difficult trip for Atlético to Celtic Park in Glasgow. Finally, in group G, the defending champion Manchester City travels to Bern to face Young Boys, while RB Leipzig receives Red Star Belgrade.
