Marika Domanski Lyfor’s brain tumor is malignant and impossible to remove.
A message that has taken a toll on Caroline Seger.
– She has been with me my whole adult life, says the 39-year-old.
In April, it was announced that the national team manager of the women’s national team Marika Domanski Lyfors suffered from a brain tumor. A few weeks later, it was announced that the tumor was malignant, and impossible to operate on.
The message came suddenly and one of those close to the national team manager is Caroline Victorywho after 240 international matches has created a strong bond with the 64-year-old.
– It is extremely heavy. She means everything to Swedish football, and she has been with me my whole adult life. So, incredibly heavy of course. But then… Hope is the last thing that abandons you and she is a fighter. So we support her in this difficult time, says Caroline Seger.
“A close friend”
The Rosengård player says that she is often in contact with Domanski Lyfors and that the players among themselves who have a close relationship with her also support each other.
– She is a close friend and a mentor to me, so it is clear that we have contact. We try to do everything we can and be there for Marika. She means everything to us, many of us have had her with us for a long time. So we try to support her and each other, she says and continues:
– She is a strong leader who has always stood up for us in all situations and has always been there regardless and fought for us. Now the roles are reversed and it’s our turn to show our support for her.

The former national team captain Seger would have been dismissed in connection with the EC qualifying match at home against Ireland on June 4, but the Rosengård player has previously said that she does not want to carry out the dismissal when Domanski Lyfors cannot be in place.
And the 39-year-old is sticking to that message.
– Absolutely, so it is my decision. Like I said, she’s going to be there. It is the most important.

Marika Domanski Lyfors was the national team captain for the Swedish women’s national team between 1996 and 2005 and won silver on two occasions, EC 2001 and WC 2003. In recent years, she has acted as national team manager instead.
“Just trying to keep it together”
The Hammarby player Jonna Andersson believes it will be a different gathering when the players gather for a European Championship qualifier against Ireland on May 31.
– It will be a special gathering next, but also maybe nice to be able to meet again and just try to keep it together and together be able to give as much strength and love to Marika as we can, Andersson says.
Domanski Lyfors is on sick leave and has started treatment.
