CAN 2024 qualifiers: Mozambique dismisses Benin and returns to the CAN 13 years later

It only needed one point to ensure its qualification for CAN 2004, Mozambique did better by winning against Benin at home (3-2). Even if we had to wait until the last minute of play and Bauque’s goal (90+5) to definitively kill the suspense. Because the Mambas trembled at times, especially after Steve Mounié opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 20th minute. Fortunately, Witi (27th) and Guimaraes (31st) quickly allowed Victor Jose Matine’s men to avoid doubting for too long. Benin reacted by equalizing through Dossou (50th), but the Guépards were unable to transcend themselves to seek victory, like their course in these qualifiers. The Cheetahs have in fact only won one match in this group L and it was on the green carpet against Rwanda. Conversely, Mozambique was able to take its chance, in a group dominated by Senegal, and earn 10 points to return to the CAN 13 years after its last participation in 2010 in South Africa.
