King of Charles III with the rise to power of his wife About Camilla has become Queen of the United Kingdom.
Previously known as the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla was long assumed to take the title of princess consort when Charles became king.
In February of this year, the Queen of Elizabeth II however, stated that he wanted Camilla to take the title of Queen when Charles ascended the throne. Queen Elizabeth died on Thursday 8 September and Charles was officially proclaimed king two days later.
For decades there have been doubts whether ordinary Britons will accept Camilla as Queen. Although her popularity has increased over the years, opinions about Camilla are still divided among the people.
It has been difficult for many to forget and forgive the couple’s relationship, which also continued through Charles and the late Princess of Wales Diana’s married.
On the other hand, Charles and Camilla’s relationship has been seen as a love story, which the royal household allegedly messed up with its intervention.
The on–off relationship lasted for years
Camilla Rosemary Shand was born on July 17, 1947. Her family belonged to the upper class, but Camilla was not born into a royal family.

However, the relationship ended up being broken again when Charles got married to Lady Diana Spencer in the summer of 1981.
Prince Charles and Diana’s first child William was born in June 1982 and in September 1984 they had another addition to the family, the prince Harry’s. Soon after, Charles rekindled his relationship with Camilla, whom he had been in contact with all along.
With the triangle drama, many have wondered why Charles didn’t marry Camilla directly. It has been rumored that the attitudes of the royal household regarding Camilla’s background influenced the matter.
Among other things Express magazine (you switch to another service) and Biography publication (you switch to another service) say that Charles’ close circle is said to have wanted him to marry a woman who came from an aristocratic family.
Camilla had also dated several men even before her marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles, which allegedly made her too “experienced” in the eyes of the palace.
The marriages of both parties failed
In the mid-1980s, the media began to talk about difficulties in Charles and Diana’s marriage.
In 1992, secret recordings of Charles and Camilla’s phone conversations became public. In the same year, Diana said in her biography that she was very unhappy.

Charles and Diana, on the other hand, officially divorced in August 1996. Diana died in a car accident about a year later.
Queen Elizabeth’s approval was touching
About two years after Diana’s death in 1999, Charles and Camilla appear together in public for the first time.
The following year, Queen Elizabeth showed her approval of the relationship by appearing together with Camilla.
Charles and Camilla’s engagement was announced in February 2005. They married on 9 April of the same year.
Camilla did not want to use the title of Princess of Wales because it was associated in people’s minds with the late Diana. Instead, she was called the Duchess of Cornwall.
In February of this year, Queen Elizabeth announced that she wanted Camilla to take the title of Queen when Charles became King. Elizabeth told of her wish in a letter published on the eve of the queen’s 70-year reign.
Charles and Camilla expressed that they were moved and honored by the Queen’s words.

Appearing alongside her husband has not always been easy for Camilla. She was dubbed the “second woman” and has been compared to Diana for years.
Camilla’s decision to continue her relationship with Charles turned her life upside down, for better or for worse. Her actions and words were discussed endlessly in the media, but Camilla did not break under the pressure.
– It has not been easy. I was followed closely for so long that I had to learn to live with it. No one likes to be looked at, criticized all the time… but in the end I rise above it all and move on. Now 75-year-old Camilla’s life continues in a new role as queen. For years, he has already strengthened his position as a senior member of the royal house.
