Sarnia police were busy early Saturday morning with a weapons call and an animal rescue, according to their social media feed.

An officer posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, around 6:30 am two suspects, including one from Sarnia, were facing weapons charges following a complaint about a suspicious vehicle in the Afton Drive area. Police saw what appeared to be a handgun – it was later found to be a pellet gun – within reach of the suspects in the car, the post said.

A large kitchen knife was also discovered hidden beneath the steering wheel column.
“A strong police presence and clear communication resulted in the safe arrest of the accused,” the post said.
A man from Dover Centre, a Chatham-Kent community near Walpole Island First Nation, and a Sarnia woman were charged, police said.
PUPPY RESCUE
Earlier Saturday, around 3 am, police posted about rescuing five puppies from what they called a precarious situation.

“They were definitely worth the cruiser cleanup needed afterwards,” the post said. “All five puppies are now safe and receiving proper care.”
A Sarnia police spokesperson provided more information later Saturday morning, saying officers found them living outside in poor conditions – a makeshift enclosure with no gate or proper shelter and with the ground covered in mud and dog excrement and no sign of food or water – during a call for an unrelated incident.
“All five puppies were whimpering and shaking due to the cold, holding up their paws off the ground due to being left unattended in the cold,” police said via email.
Observing the puppies were in distress and requiring immediate action, the officers took them to the Sarnia and District Humane Society.
“The investigation into potential charges is continuing,” police added.
