45 people have died in a bus accident in South Africa, according to the country’s transport ministry.

The accident occurred when the bus, on its way from neighboring Botswana to the city of Moria, ran off a bridge in Limpopo province on Thursday evening.

Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga is on his way to the scene of the accident, which is near the town of Mokopane, news site News24 reports. In a statement, she expressed her condolences to the families affected, and urged Easter celebrants to drive carefully.

One person is said to have survived, but was injured and taken to hospital. The cause of the accident is being investigated.

– It is alleged that the driver lost control and collided with the fence of the bridge, causing the bus to drive off the bridge, says Collen Msibi, spokesperson for the Department of Transport, to News24.

The bus is reported to have fallen down a cliff and then caught fire.
