The UK-based environmental organization Extinction Rebellion is abandoning its much-criticized tactic of disrupting traffic. The organization has tried to gain publicity for preventing climate change by blocking roads, railways and airports.

The organization says in its announcement that it knows that creating a disturbance can attract attention. In the future, however, Extinction Rebellion plans to focus on “disrupting the abuse and imbalance of power” by demanding politicians stop using fossil fuels.

Extinction Rebellion plans to organize a large demonstration in front of the Houses of Parliament in London on April 21, which is expected to attract 100,000 participants.

In Finland, Extinction Rebellion’s local organization is Elokapina, whose supporters have demonstrated several times, for example, on Mannerheimintie in Helsinki and, for example, in connection with the Jyväskylä World Cup rally.
