Bomb attack on freight train in Thailand

A 15-car freight train in Thailand carrying plastics to Malaysia was attacked by bombs as it passed through Songkla state. As a result of the violent explosion, 11 freight cars of the 15-car train derailed and fell to the side of the road. While the locomotive section of the train, which had a crew of 4, including 2 mechanics, remained on the rails, there were no injuries or casualties in the attack.

Regional police chief Bantern Laochareng said in a statement after the attack that the attack was carried out with a 26-pound homemade bomb, and after the violent explosion, a 2-meter pit formed under the tracks where the bomb was placed. Laochareng also stated that there were suspicions of terrorism or theft in the attack.
