Bird flu on a farm in Skåne – protection zone established

It is at a farm in Klågerup in Svedala municipality that the outbreak of bird flu was discovered. Around 200 pheasants have been killed. The infection was discovered early when the animal owner raised the alarm.

The Swedish Agricultural Agency is now establishing a protection zone. The decision was made on March 16 and became public on Saturday.

– When we get cases of such serious diseases as bird flu, then we have to establish so-called restriction zones around the facility. They consist of a protection zone of three kilometers and then a surveillance zone of ten kilometers around, says Enisa Miljanic, infection control officer at the Swedish Agricultural Agency, to South Sweden.

The eruption at Klågerup is the third in Skåne this year. In January, the infection broke out among turkeys in Ystad and among chickens in Sjöbo.
