BIG CONGRATULATIONS: Glenn Strömberg turns 64 today – and reveals the worst rawhide he’s encountered: “Spatted in my face”

Now best known for being a commentator and TV pundit.
But Glenn Strömberg also had a fantastic football career.
Today we pay tribute to him on his 64th birthday!

In Sweden is Glenn Stromberg now best known for being an esteemed and popular television pundit and expert commentator. But before that he achieved great success as a footballer, and at home in Italy he is celebrated for it to this day.

Legend in Atalanta

Glenn Strömberg came to IFK Göteborg as a teenager, and during the 80s he made his mark at the club under the leadership of Sven-Göran Eriksson. In “Blåvitt” there was a SM gold (1982), two Swedish Cup titles (1979 and 1982), and they also became Uefa Cup champions in 1982.

There was one season in Benfica, also then with “Svennis” as coach, before Strömberg moved to Bergamo, Italy to play in Atalanta. At the club, he quickly became a much loved player by the fans. For the last four seasons, Glenn was the captain, and to this day he is called “Il Capitano” (the captain) by the people of Bergamo.

In total, it was eight years at Atalanta before Glenn Strömberg ended his football career. But he now lives in Bergamo with his wife Simone Strömberg. The couple have three daughters together.

Strömberg met many talented footballers during his career, among others Diego Maradona which Glenn told me was the toughest to play against. In an interview with Expressen, the 64-year-old also revealed who is the biggest rawhide he has faced on a football field.
Salvatore Bagni in Naples. He spat in my face in the middle of a match. He was greedy as hell on the field. But very nice outside. But I would figure out how to deal with him. When we met Napoli I ran like hell, more than usual, then he couldn’t take it and was replaced with 20 left, says Glenn Strömberg to the evening newspaper.
