Biathlon: Hanna Öberg fifth in Canmore’s World Cup sprint – best sprint this winter

Hanna Öberg has not had one of her better seasons. The 28-year-old, who before the season had five consecutive seasons as one of the top seven in the overall World Cup, went into tonight’s race “only” in 13th place in the overall World Cup – with only a single individual podium (a third place in Lenzerheides hunting start in December).

But in Canmore, Canada, she impressed. She put all ten shots, and also had okay speed on the skis.

Ferry: “Perfect”

It ended up with a preliminary fifth place when all the regular top finishers finished, which is her best sprint result of the season, and also the second best place she has achieved (along with fifth place in the WC pursuit start). Her previous best sprint result this winter was an eighth place at the WC.

– She cannot do better than she is doing today. Perfect based on the conditions, says SVT Sports expert Björn Ferry.

The competition was won by the Italian Lisa Vittozzi, who thus niggles at Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold in the fight for the overall World Cup.

Second best Swede was Anna Magnusson, who shot full. She was tenth when all the top racers had finished.

The competition is ongoing
