Better play this MMORPG now

There’s a lot of rumblings at Final Fantasy XIV: The pre-orders for the new expansion Dawntrail are live and the rush is even breaking servers. So it’s better to play the MMORPG now, before it’s too late in the summer.

What happened last in Final Fantasy XIV? Final Fantasy XIV is currently one of the largest and most popular MMORPGs in the world. Square Enix’s game has delighted players worldwide since its relaunch in 2013 and has now received four expansions.

Most recently there was this news about the game:

However, there were major problems with the most recently launched pre-orders.

Pre-order rush crashes the servers

What happened with the pre-orders? Dawntrail pre-orders went live on March 26, 2024 at 10:00 am. There are a few bonuses for those who pre-order:

  • You can get early access access from June 28th
  • The in-game companion wind-up Zidane
  • The Azeyma earrings that give XP bonuses
  • However, getting a pre-order at all probably presented greater challenges for many people. According to the game’s official X.com account, there were problems paying by credit card in the Square Enix store at 12:25 p.m. German time.

Those who wanted to pre-order via Steam probably simply didn’t receive a registration code:

Those whose pre-orders ultimately went through were faced with the next problem: the codes for the in-game items, which you were supposed to receive with the pre-order, arrived very late. Square Enix also commented on this via X.com.

In fact, Final Fantasy XIV regularly struggles with server problems at launch. The fact that it has now even hit the servers of the official store is new:

Play Final Fantasy XIV now – a summer start could really be too late

Why should you play the game now? As briefly mentioned above, Final Fantasy The current Endwalker expansion even temporarily stopped selling because it was too popular – the servers couldn’t handle the load of new and, above all, simultaneous players.

Of course, the problems also regularly cause new memes in the community: Anyone who managed to log in to Stormblood 2017 was directly in front of the next boss, Raubahn EX.

There is a hard version of most of the boss fights in the game, called Extremes (EX). The NPC Raubahn, on the other hand, must be spoken to at the beginning of Stormblood in order to start single-player content.

Thousands of players dutifully lined up in virtual character queues to wait for their chance to speak to Raubahn. Only to have the cutscene play and be kicked out of the game.

Since the rush for pre-orders has now even managed to crash the website servers, it can be assumed that a fair number of players will want to play Final Fantasy XIV at the same time at launch.

Is it still worth getting into Final Fantasy 14 in 2024?

    by Sophia Weiss

If you want to avoid the expected problems, we can only recommend that you only get started a few days after the official release of Dawntrail. Or get into Final Fantasy XIV right now. The game is currently between the last Endwalker patch and launch – so there are still enough players, but not as many as there will be at launch.

If you start now, you also have the chance to complete much of the content of the story-driven sandbox MMORPG before Dawntrail. Even after many years, players continue to discover content that they did not know or that surprised them. For example, an MMORPG veteran with over 20 years of experience thought he had seen it all and then was surprised.
