Charlotte Baris: This year, L’Express celebrates its 70th anniversary. On this occasion, the newspaper team deployed an important system: a special issue first, a “mook”, which you can find on newsstands this week, a major conference and of course a series of podcasts, which you have perhaps heard at the end of summer. To tell the story of L’Express, we called on former editorial writers, such as Michèle Cotta – political journalist from 1963 to 1976 – and a few minutes before the start of the interview, our guest spoke. questioned.

Charlotte Baris: “Jean-Jacques and Françoise” are the legendary couple who founded L’Express in 1953. Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber and Françoise Giroud had a lot of ambition, an innate taste for the world of media and a real sense of commitment, whether it is defending Pierre Mendès-France – the politician they supported – taking a stand against the Algerian War or promoting women’s rights. Their story is that of a magazine, obviously, but it is also that of post-war France. To mark the 70th anniversary of L’Express, the La Loupe team has chosen to dedicate two exceptional episodes to the journey of its founders.
