This is the question that the members of the National Rally will have to answer throughout the month of October during the election of the future president of the party. Marine Le Pen has indeed announced that she will give up her seat, 11 years after having succeeded her father, the founder of the party, Jean-Marie Le Pen. One month before the opening of the ballot, it is therefore a two-way battle that is under way between Jordan Bardella, official candidate since Wednesday August 31, 2022, and Louis Aliot, declared candidate since the end of July. The first named, interim president for a year, appears to be the favorite of the votes, all the more so after the last electoral results of the party to the flame. But, for his part, the former companion of Marine Le Pen intends to play spoilsport to try to shake up his rival who is just 27 years old.

Why does Marine Le Pen give up the presidency of the RN?

Arrived at the head of the former FN in January 2011 after being elected against Bruno Gollnisch, Marine Le Pen will officially let go of her post as president of the National Rally. Since September 13, 2021, she has in fact already handed over to Jordan Bardella, appointed interim president during the presidential campaign. Since then, the member for Pas-de-Calais has not returned to her post. And won’t take it back. She announced it on June 20. “I will not take over the head of the RN. I will concentrate on the presidency of this very large group”, she had justified, referring to the group of 89 RN deputies in the National Assembly, a mission on which she wishes to fully concentrate. .

Who is a candidate to become president of the RN?

Two candidates are therefore officially in the race to try to take the presidency of the RN. Jordan Bardella entered the race on August 31 by posting a letter to members on social media in which he announced his candidacy. An approach “to continue the victorious path that we took behind Marine (Le Pen, editor’s note).” The same 30-year-old step also targets the presidency “so that we remain this great coherent, popular, meritocratic force, rooted in the territories and where each of you will find his place.” Acting President for a year, he hopes to ride the wave of the historic electoral results of the National Rally, both in the presidential and legislative elections, to continue to lead the party.

He will therefore face Louis Aliot. In a column published on the website of Opinion Thursday, July 28, the mayor of Perpignan indicated his desire to combine the functions of first city councilor and head of the RN: “At 52, father, doctor of law, lecturer at the university then lawyer, I have the training and the will necessary to assume my mandate as mayor and a function of party president, around a collegial direction made up of well-defined responsibilities. When will the new president of the RN be known?

The National Rally has set the schedule for organizing the vote, which David Rachline is responsible for. Friday, July 29, 2022 will be published the modalities of candidacy for the presidency. Candidates have until Friday, September 9 to collect sponsorships and officially declare themselves a candidate. Ten days later, Monday, September 19, the official list of presidential candidates will be unveiled. Voting will then begin on Friday, September 30 and close on Thursday, November 3. The results will be announced on Saturday 5 November.

The future president of the National Rally will be elected by party members. Voting will be done electronically only. The ballot will last a month, between September 30 and November 3.
