Be careful if you are a customer of this bank: your RIB may be deactivated, which will block your automatic withdrawals and deprive you of certain essential services.

Each month, you are charged for a certain number of subscriptions, whether for your telephone plan or your energy bill. In fact, when you subscribed to a contract of this type, you indicated your RIB to the company so that it can debit you monthly. Since then, the debit is done automatically and you no longer have to worry about it. But in recent weeks, a certain number of users have had the unpleasant surprise of receiving messages, by email or SMS, asking them to pay their dues as quickly as possible because they could not be collected.

The first instinct – completely legitimate – in this type of situation is to think that this is yet another phishing attempt aimed at obtaining your personal and banking data. But not this time. If you are one of the 800,000 customers of the Crédit commercial de France bank (CCF), then this is a real alert before the suspension of your subscription with certain companies. And therefore the end of the associated service.

CCF is the “new” bank that has succeeded HSBC since 1er January 2024. The transition was supposed to be seamless and even imperceptible to customers, but between checkbooks with the wrong name, faulty bank cards and non-functional ATMs, everything didn’t go exactly as planned, as reported Le Figaro. Especially at the level of RIB and associated direct debits. Indeed, those published by HSBC were supposed to remain valid until June 30, 2024, but it seems that this end of validity took place, for certain customers, two months in advance…

In a letter sent to its customers, the CCF indicates that it has done everything possible for a smooth transition. It thus ensures that all transfers and direct debits occurring on an old HSBC RIB are automatically transferred to the CCF account, without any action on the part of the customers. “at least until the end of June”. It also specifies that it has systematically informed the establishments concerned by the change of bank domiciliation by communicating to them the new RIB CCF.

However, the CCF also indicates that this system is not automatic with companies domiciled outside France, such as Amazon, American Express, Ebay, Free or Paypal, for example. In this case, it is up to the customer to carry out this process directly themselves. Also, if you are a CCF customer, send your new RIB to all these organizations without delay, even if you have not received a message, because, as of 1er July, the old HSBC RIBs will become permanently unusable. If you do not provide your new bank details, you risk receiving reminder letters, having to pay late payment interest or, quite simply, having your subscriptions suspended.

Finally, if the CCF ensures that no action is to be taken after companies domiciled in France, it is better to check for yourself that your new bank details have been transmitted to important organizations, in particular to your employer, to your energy, Internet and telephone supplier, and taxes! Caution is the mother of safety…
