Babies found in the rubble of earthquake-stricken Syria

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

At the beginning of February, a newborn baby was found in the rubble after the earthquakes in Syria. No one in her immediate family survived and the girl ended up in hospital.

But now she has a new home. The girl will be allowed to live with her aunt and uncle. She has also been given a new name: Afraa.

The images of Afraa being rescued from the mobs went viral on social media and thousands of people offered to adopt the girl.

“A reminder”

Instead of leaving Syria, Afraa has now had to come home to her aunt Hala and uncle Khalil instead.

– This girl means so much to us because there is no one left in her family except this baby. She will be a reminder to me, to her aunt and all the other relatives in our village of her mother and father, to the whole village, says uncle Khalil.

Three days after the earthquakes struck, the aunt and uncle had a child of their own. According to Khalil, she and Afraa will grow up together.
