Atlético won the Madrid derby after a header celebration

Atlético Madrid got off to a flying start at home during Sunday’s Madrid derby against Real Madrid.

In the fourth minute of the match, Álvaro Morata was able to meet Lino’s cross with his forehead and head in 1-0 for Atlético.

A quarter of an hour later, it was time for Antoine Griezmann to extend the lead when he also headed the ball into the goal.

But Real Madrid would reduce through Toni Kroos who in the 35th minute of the match coolly placed the ball into the left corner.

With a minute left in the first half, the visitors came close to an equaliser, but Eduardo Camavinga’s goal was ruled offside.

After only 30 seconds of play in the second half, Morata struck again with his forehead and headed in 3–1 for his Atlético, which was also the final score of the match. The loss for Real Madrid will be the team’s first this season.

For Real Madrid, Las Palmas now awaits on Wednesday. Atlético Madrid face Osasuna on Thursday.
