It was at the US Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, that Grant Holloway ran 7.27 in the trial. He skipped the final a couple of hours later as he had already qualified for the indoor WC in Glasgow on March 1-3.
Holloway is a dominant player who has one of the longest streaks in athletics. He has won 60 straight races in the 60 meter hurdles over a period of ten years. His previous record was 7.29, a time he had run twice before.
– I knew it would be good when I got out of the blocks. My most important task was to find the timing with the steps and get a good rhythm, says Holloway to the international athletics association World Athletics.
7.67 and 7.68 within two hours
20 minutes earlier, Tia Jones had run 7.67 in her attempt to equal Devynne Charlton’s record from last Sunday, a record previously held by Susanna Kallur for 16 years and a day. The pole runner ran 7.68 in Karlsruhe 2008.
In the final two hours later, Jones won in 7.68.
Chris Nielsen won the pole vault in a championship record 6.00 ahead of Sam Kendricks who had 5.95. Nielsen had one failed attempt at 6.05 and two at 6.10.
