Right now Finnvedsvallen is being rebuilt so that IFK Värnamo can run all -Swedish games there. Among other things, new stands are being set up and the media areas will be larger. The rebuilding means that running tracks and space for athletics disappear, it worries the athletics association.
In a letter to Värnamo municipality, chairman Johan Storåkers writes that they want a meeting with representatives of the municipality as soon as possible.
– We in Swedish athletics are deeply concerned about the signals we have received that the opportunities for athletics at Finnvedsvallen will be limited in the future, writes Storåker.
Presupposes an open dialogue
The Athletics Association points to a number of points showing how important athletics are to society and for public health, and what good business the athletics club Wärnamo SK stands for. WSK today uses Finnvedsvallen for its youth activities and broad sports.
– Representatives of Wärnamo SK have ideas about the future outdoor facilities/years in the municipality and we assume that officials and politicians for an open and honest dialogue, Storåkers writes in the letter.
The Municipal Board of Värnamo has commissioned the Technology and Leisure Committee to investigate where the WSK athletics club will conduct its operations during the construction period of Finnvedsvallen.
