At least three dead after tornado in Texas

The tornado touched down in the community of Perryton, which has about 8,500 residents, on Thursday afternoon local time. Authorities say at least three people have died and more than 100 have been injured as a result of the strong winds, reports ABC.

In addition, the tornado has brought with it extensive material devastation. Among other things, it must have passed an area where many people live in caravans and mobile homes.

The local hospital announces that they have received over 50 patients, and that the injury status varies from mild to more serious. Several patients with serious injuries have also been transported to other hospitals.

Power is currently out in Perryton, according to energy company Xcel Energy. The hospital is also without power.

“Serious devastation”

Resident Sabrina Devers speaks up Fox that the city is unrecognizable.

– It looks like a bomb has exploded. Residential areas, the mobile homes, are just gone. It is serious devastation, she tells the channel.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent emergency resources to Perryton to help deal with the disaster.

– I urge all Texans to listen to state guidelines and local authorities, and to take all necessary precautions to protect yourselves and your loved ones. We are ready to quickly provide additional resources during this severe weather event,” he said in a statement.

Tornado warnings have been issued for north and central Texas and much of Oklahoma, and severe weather is expected to affect several areas on Friday.
