At least ten killed in bus crash in Australia

At least 10 people have died in a bus crash in Australia’s south-eastern state of New South Wales, state police say in its announcement.

There were about 50 passengers on the bus. According to the police, 25 people were injured in the accident and taken to hospital. 18 passengers were said to have survived the accident without injury.

The accident happened late Sunday evening local time in the Hunter Valley region, near the small town of Greta. The Hunter Valley wine region, popular with tourists, is located north of Sydney.

The 58-year-old man driving the bus was transported to the hospital for testing and evaluation. The driver was later arrested and is expected to face charges.

Prime Minister Albanese offered his condolences to the family

According to the opinion of the police representative, the bus passengers were wedding guests.

– As far as I understand, they had been at the wedding party together. I think they were traveling together, probably to a place to stay, said the deputy state police chief Tracy Chapman.

According to Chapman, no other vehicles are known to have been involved in the accident. At the time of the accident, the weather was reportedly foggy, but according to Chapman, the cause of the accident is still unknown.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese tweeted his condolences to the families and those injured.

– It is very cruel that a day of joy ends with such a shocking loss, Albanese wrote in his tweet.
