ASPI, A8 Milano Laghi: the first motorway in the country, becomes the first 5-lane asset in Italy

ASPI A8 Milano Laghi the first motorway in the country

(Finance) – A century after its first inauguration, theA8 Milano Laghi becomes the first – and only – 5-lane motorway in the Peninsula.

The project carried out by Autostrade per l’Italia increases the capacity of one of the busiest stretches in the country – 170,000 vehicles per day with peaks exceeding 200,000 transits – acting as a connection between the largest routes in Northern Italy, an integral part of two international corridors towards Northern European countries.

In detail, the intervention included the creation of an additional lane between the north Milan barrier and the interconnection with the A9 Lainate–Como–Chiasso motorway, for a total of approximately 4.4 km serving the metropolitan city of Milan and the production districts that characterize the area. Thanks to an overall investment of around 200 million euros, the infrastructure improves travel times, with a saving of 1 million hours a year.

The inauguration of the new lane was held today in the presence, among others, of the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, the President of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana, the President of Autostrade per l’Italia Elisabetta Oliveri and the CEO Roberto Tomasi.

“The strengthening of the Milan-Laghi route – states theAd Tomasi – it is a project with a high symbolic value: the first motorway in Italy and a strategic hub for the country, after 100 years of operation, the A8 marks a new record in terms of capacity and quality of travel. Once again, the synergistic structure of our Group was fundamental in achieving this objective, which saw the various subsidiary companies aligned: starting with Amplia for construction, thanks to which it was possible to accelerate the works in the last twelve months, increasing productivity much more than double. Our framework of synergies – which also sees an important role of Tecne for engineering and Movyon for technologies – represents a winning modus operandi that we are replicating on the national territory for the grounding of Autostrade per l’Italia’s industrial plan” .

The entire A8 upgrade project – completed by Expand, a company of the Aspi Group and the first construction company for activities at a national level – is characterized by an innovative approach, both in the management of the construction phases and in the implementation of interventions to benefit the quality of life of the urban fabric, therefore making the motorway longest-lived in the country, a cutting-edge asset in the name of sustainable mobility. We also note the particular attention given during the works to the reuse of excavation materials (approximately 88% reused in construction activities foreseen by the intervention) and to the protection of water (100% of the drainage system closed and controlled). The planting of 10 hectares of native tree species near the town is also planned, which will contribute to improving air quality, with a reduction in fine dust emissions of up to 40%.

Among the most important related interventions for the benefit of the territory, carried out by Aspi, are: the new Lainate Galleryan important work to mend the metropolitan area, a fundamental element of the new road connection between the SP 101 and the SP 109, which includes an underpass of the interconnection between the A8 and A9 motorways, the construction on Corso Europa of two coplanar roads and a new roundabout which will allow the connection onto via Nervino. Furthermore, also in the city of Lainate, the new overpass in viale Manzonialready in operation, and the new road connection with the municipality of Rho and new cycle paths.
