Artist Bart Lunenburg pays tribute to the brick

The intention was that the bricks Bart made would all be the same. But that didn’t work. “It is an unpredictable material, no stone is the same. It contains organic residues that cause cracks, you see a stone or shell that wants to come out during firing. I do try to make a perfect stone, but continue with this to work with the material you give up control. That’s what the work should be about too, I make everything by hand, so you can see that it is not made by a machine. By allowing the imperfection, it takes on a different meaning in the final work.”
