Arson ruled cause of fire, man charged: Chatham-Kent police

A man has been charged with arson after a structure fire in Wallaceburg, said Chatham-Kent police.

Arson was ruled to be the cause of the blaze March 16 at a Willis Street property, called in about 10 pm and extinguished by Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue Services, police said.

A suspect was identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest, police said.

On Wednesday, a 44-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested in Wallaceburg and held pending a bail hearing, police said.

He is charged with arson showing disregard for human life, police said.

Pair charged after Chatham-Kent police respond to family dispute

A man and woman have been charged in connection with a family dispute in Chatham.

Officers were called to a Vanier Drive home Tuesday around 10:30 am and found a man in the driveway who had been released from custody March 14 on conditions he not expected the Vanier Driver address, communicate with the resident there or be within a specific distance of the resident, police said.

The Vanier Driver resident had been allowing the man to communicate and reside with her knowing he was bound by conditions, police said.

A 32-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and is charged with five counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was held pending a bail hearing.

The 54-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with facilitating a breach of a release order. She was released with conditions and an April 22 court date, police said.
