Karelian BK-46 is celebrating its third consecutive Finnish handball championship. BK-46 beat Cocks in the third final with a score of 37–33 (18–15) and won the match 3–0.

Cocks challenged BK-46 at the beginning of the second period, when the home team’s lead was only two goals. BK kept their lead until the end and in the end were better than Riihimäkelä by four goals.

Especially BK’s Nico Rönnberg was very difficult for Cocks to hold. He scored no less than 17 goals in the match. Captain of BK-46 Sebastian Säkkinen shines on the striker, who is an extremely important player for the Karelian team.

– Let’s say this, if we had won by 18 goals, then Nico would not be important. But now Nico’s goals are really important. He lights up when the hall and the house are full. He’s the kind of player who presses on until the very end and puts the ball into the goal by force, says Säkkinen.

More than 1,300 spectators watched the match on the spot.

During its history, BK-46 has won no fewer than 23 Finnish championships in men’s handball. In this time’s final series, BK-46 had a huge draw.

– The body is really tired, and so is probably everyone else. It’s easier when the championship is here in Karja. It is a great honor to win in the home hall as the captain of this team. Now we can celebrate, says Säkkinen.

GrIFK women’s Finnish champion

Grankulla IFK won Friday’s women’s Finnish championship for the second time in a row. It defeated HIFK 29–23 (12–12) in the decisive fifth final match and won the championship 3–2.

HIFK led the match series 2–0, but GrIFK won three matches in a row and rose to the championship.

The match was played in the sold-out Helsinki Sports Hall in front of 700 spectators.

Sebastian Säkki was interviewed by Bubi Asplund.
