Arrest made after Brant County senior lost 18000 in romance

A Thunder Bay woman has been charged with fraud after a 76-year-old Brant County resident lost about $18,000 in a romance scam last year.

Brant OPP said the crime was reported on July 19, 2022 after the victim was using a dating website and connected with a person they didn’t know.

After several weeks, said a police news release, the victim started to send cash transfers to the person.

Later the victim became suspicious and reported the activity to police.

Chinasa Chuioke, 25, of Thunder Bay has been charged with fraud over $5,000. She is expected to appear in Brantford Court later but police continue to investigate and anticipate further charges.
