MEERKERK – The organization of the Arno Wallaard Memorial has announced that the race will be about a new course this year. This season the race will be held on April 16 in Meerkerk.

The peloton will start in Meerkerk. The riders then go through the meadows towards the Diefdijk. “Via the Diefdijk and the Bolgerijse polders, the peloton chooses the Lekdijk at Helsdingen, Vianen, after which the riders are faced with an often windy Lekdijk for more than 20 kilometers”, according to organizer Bram van der Wal.

After this you will cycle towards the Alblasserwaard. This place houses many training routes of the late Arno Wallaard, after whom the race is named. From there, speed will be made towards Meerkerk, because the finish is also there on Saturday, April 16, 2022. The exact route of the Arno Wallaard Memorial, which will be held for the first time since 2019, has yet to be announced.

Special job for mayor

Mayor Sjors Fröhlich of the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden will resume his old job as a motorcycle reporter on April 16. Fröhlich was for years NOS motorcycle reporter at the Tour de France. Now he gets back on his bike at the Arno Wallaard Memorial to do radio coverage for his community.
