Arne Hegerfor’s unforgettable memory – when “Blåvitt” was robbed of the Bragdguldet and responded perfectly

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The Bragdguldet is one of the most prestigious awards you can receive in Swedish sports.
And it is not infrequent that one can assume that it is difficult to choose who should receive it.
Perhaps it became particularly clear in 1982 – a year that the legendary Arne Hegerfors remembers for a special reason.

Bragdguldet 2022 went to Nils van der Poel. Previous years have icons like Gunde Swan, Sarah Sjostrom, Charlotte Kalla and Jan-Ove Waldner received the award, which suggests that the competition for the award is fierce, to say the least.

Won “wrong” year

It was perhaps extra clear in 1982. It was the year that IFK Göteborg took home the victory in the Uefa Cup after a victory against German Hamburg with a total of 4–0 over two matches. Many people think it was a great victory, but was it enough to win the gold medal?

The answer is no. The award instead went to the tennis sovereign Mats Wilander after the matchless effort at the French Open. And even though “Blåvitt” were of course more than satisfied with their Uefa Cup title, you can say that the team won their title in the “wrong” year.

Hegerfors’ funniest

Bragdguldet 1982 is something of a legend Arne Hegerfors remember with pleasure, because of a particular detail. IFK Göteborg took the opportunity to be a bit resourceful when they sent their congratulations to Mats Wilander – a gesture that is etched in Hegerfor’s memory.

The telegram that the club sent to Wilander stated the following:
“We hit too many balls in the net. Congratulations!”

By that you are of course referring to the fact that in tennis it is a disadvantage to hit the ball into the net, while in football it is just the opposite. Brilliant answer!
