Armand Duplantis, who made the new ME, has jumped his best results in the hall in recent years. The sports coach sees that in a suitable backwind outdoors, a Swede can reach a height of up to 630.
Swedish Armand Duplantiksen the best jumps at the pole position are yet to be seen.
Finnish pole vault coach Jarno Koivunen sees that with Swedish characteristics, exceedances of even more than ten cents higher than at present are possible.
Duplantis jumped a new pole vault world record yesterday, 619, at the Athletics Hall in Serbia, Serbia.
– Yesterday wasn’t his best jump. The bar just happened to be in the right place. When there is a downwind wind, the maximum result is currently between 625 and 630, Koivunen says.
According to Koivunen, Duplantis is distinguished from other jumpers by the speed of the Swede when entering the jump pit. The running speed of the double with the rod is in a class of its own.
In a hall race in Uppsala in February, Duplantis recorded a speed of over 10 meters per second when entering the pit.
– There is so much energy in the jump. In the same race, the second best speed result was 9.7 meters per second and the third result was 9.5. It may seem small, but in reality it is a shockingly big difference, Koivunen says.
Duplantis has jumped his best jumps in the hall
Armand Duplantis has dominated pole vaulting for the past couple of years. According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Duplantis tried to exceed 619 in races 50 times before now succeeding in Belgrade, with its 51st attempt.
In athletics, record results are usually divided into indoor and outdoor track records. Record results are not broken down in pole vaulting. An official world record can be set either indoors or outdoors.
The best jumps in the duplicate are within the recorded results. The best outdoor jump is the 615 jumps in Rome in 2020. Inside, the Duplantis has exceeded a similar height three times.
The double-jumped 615 result is better than the previous world record Sergei Bubkan quotation. Bubka jumped out to a record 614.
Jarno Koivunen says that jumping is easier inside.
– The condition is always constant. The wind does not affect the running inside or the carrying of the rod.
Outdoors, the condition can change for the better if the weather is ideal.
– However, steady backwinds during races are rare. That’s why you can only try the world record once or twice a season in outdoor competitions. In the hall, if there is a good jumping place and pit, you can try it every time, Koivunen says.
