Armand Duplantis amazed by dad Greg Duplantis’ words about how high ‘Mondo’ can actually jump: ‘It sounds crazy’

Armand Duplantis is chasing new heights in the pole vault.
Now the father Greg Duplantis admits how high his son can jump.
– Ah, but it’s easier for him to say that, says “Mondo” with a laugh to TV4.

He is by far the best pole vaulter in the world but is not happy about it. Armand Duplantis continues to push himself and his body to new heights to continue making sports history.

Dad Greg’s words

So far, he has won every gold medal there is to win and has broken the world record seven times. 6.23 meters is the highest “Mondo” has jumped at the competition, but the ambition is so much higher.

Now the father and the coach reveal Greg Duplantis exactly how high the son can reach in the pole vault.
– I know this sounds crazy, but I think he can get up to 6.40 meters and maybe manage exactly 6.40 m, says Greg confidently.

Mondo admits

So it’s a full 17 centimeters more and Mondo is amazed when he hears his father’s words.
– Ah, but it’s easier for him to say that because he doesn’t have to jump. But he only needs to coach me, haha. Yes, but it is possible. In my head it feels like I have no limit at all. I don’t even think about how high I can reach, I only think about the next step, says Duplantis in an interview with TV4’s Nyhetsmorgon.
– One day I will certainly try for 6.30 m or higher, but it won’t be tomorrow. But sometime in the future maybe…

The 24-year-old world star explains what he has to do to reach the incredible height of 6.40 meters in the future.
– If I’m going to manage another 17 centimeters, I have to get better at everything. Faster, stronger and better with technology – yes, everything. But you never know, it feels like I have a lot of room to grow. I am only 24 years old and I am not in my “prime form” right now, so it is possible to push more, he admits in the interview.

Then he is asked if the eighth world record will come this summer, when the eyes of the whole world turn to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
– Yes maybe. I still hope to break the world record before the Olympics because I have several competitions ahead. But it is so clear that there is no better opportunity than the Olympics, says Mondo.
