Another Swede debuts in Indycar: “Going to enjoy”

Blomqvist will drive for Meyer Shank Racing and replaces Frenchman Simon Pageneud, who was injured after a crash in practice.

“First and foremost, I’m thinking of Simon and hope he recovers as quickly as possible. I want to thank Mike (Shank) and Jim (Meyer) for this chance. I’m looking forward to seeing what Indycar has to offer,” says the Swede to Indycar website.

He does not put any great pressure on himself.

“To be thrown into the hot air straight away is an understatement. I’m expectant but aware of the challenges during a race weekend so I’m not putting any pressure on myself. I’m just going to enjoy and give everything I’ve got.”

Tom Blomqvist is the son of rally icon Stig Blomqvist and has triple citizenship as he grew up in England and New Zealand.

Among the main merits are double victories in the 24 Hours of Daytona, where he is the defending champion.

Toronto’s grand prix starts on Sunday 19.30, Swedish time. Then Blomqvist has to settle with Swedish stars Marcus Ericsson and Felix Rosenqvist.
