Anna Signeul started as the head coach of the Finnish women’s national football team after the European Championships 2017. At the time, he was coaching Scotland in the European Championships.

The European Football Championship was originally supposed to be played in the summer of 2021. When the corona pandemic postponed the European Championships for men and the Olympics from 2020 to 2021, the European Championships for women were postponed until 2022.

After the European Championships in the summer, the World Cup qualifiers for Finland will continue with two more matches in September. In those matches, Finland can still play from the World Cup place or at least from the place in the qualifiers.

In the Helmari remote information on Thursday, Sports asked the head coach Signeul whether it is known who will coach Finland in the remaining two World Cup qualifiers after the European Championships.

– I wasn’t prepared for that question. We need to come back to this later, Signeul said.

Shortly after the event, the Football Association announced that Signeul’s contract will continue until the end of 2022.

Before the European Championships, Finland has two important World Cup qualifiers in the program. Tomorrow, Friday, Finland will play as a guest of Slovakia in Trnava. Next Tuesday, Finland will meet Georgia in Töölö, Helsinki.

The European Championships will be played in England from 6 to 31. July.

After that, Finland will have the culmination of the World Cup qualifiers when it plays as a guest of Ireland on September 1 and hosts Sweden in Tampere on September 6.

The group winners will advance directly to the World Championships, the group runners-up will advance to the qualifiers. If Finland advances to further qualifiers, those matches will be played in October.

Slovakia and Finland will face off in the World Cup qualifiers on Friday 8.4. The match will be shown on Areena from 9.20 pm and on TV2 from 9:50 pm.
